Holiday E-Bike Shopping Guide

A few very important things to consider when shopping for an E-Bike this Holiday Season.

E-bikes have hit the road at full throttle. They are great when you purchase the right one for you or your loved one. They can bring excitement and joy to all ages. E-bikes can give a lot of folks the ability to still get around which they may not have had in the past. But be careful and do your research to avoid making the wrong purchase.

There are a few things that you should consider when making such a purchase.

Understanding the Laws and Regulations.

New Jersey and nationally there are regulations governing riding e-bikes on the road or public property. It is important to consider this when purchasing the right bike. If not, you run the risk of not being able to use the ebike and being ticketing or even confiscation of the e-bike from law enforcement.

For instance, Class 3 e-bikes require a license and registration with a minimum age requirement of 15 to operate an e-bike.

Purchase consideration.

There are a lot of companies selling e-bikes not only through bike shops, box stores and outlet stores but on the internet as well. There is a flood of companies on Amazon, eBay and third party internet sites that are selling e-bikes of all styles and prices.

When looking to purchase an e-bike You should do your homework. Research what you are about spend your hard-earned money on.

Two major things to consider when purchasing an e-bike:

Make sure the company has after the sale support.

We see a number of customers that have purchased that great deal on Amazon and eBay at a very low price only to find that once there is a problem there is no support for the product with no or little parts or technical support.

Make sure you check to see that they have a website and offer after the sale support. Even better if they have a local e-bike service provider that can manage warranty and part support.

Make sure the battery and the e-bike are UL approved.

UL 2849 and UL 2271 are safety certifications established by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) specifically for electric bikes, with UL 2849 evaluating the entire e-bike system and UL 2271 focusing solely on the e-bike battery pack, ensuring both meet rigorous safety standards regarding electrical components, thermal performance, and potential fire hazards; essentially, a UL 2849 certified e-bike means its battery pack (tested under UL 2271) and other electrical parts have passed strict safety tests.

These standards are put in place for your safety and the safety of your e-bike and property.

Unfortunately, there are still a number of e-bikes that do not follow these standards and are still being sold.

So, to get the most out of your Holiday e-bike purchase do your research, see about test riding the bike so you can make the right choice and enjoy your e-bike for years to come.
